Guv stresses commitment to advancement of women

The need for “a society that does not discriminate based on gender, one that allows women to demonstrate and prove their equal worth through their distinct and unique capacities alongside men in nation-building,” was stressed by Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson on Wednesday, March 6.

Lacson led the provincial opening of the National Women’s Month at Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City attended by members of women councils and guests from Negros Occidental local government units.

He said this year’s theme, “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan” indicates a common vision for a new and progressive nation rooted in equity.

The governor assured that the provincial government “is committed to consistently developing and implementing programs and policies that align with best practices and measures in the advancement of gender and development, reinforcing the Magna Carta of Women”.

Board Member Rita Gatuslao – chairperson of the SP Committee on Women and Children, lawyer Andrea Lizares Si – Provincial Council for Women chair, Grace Natalie Azarraga of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Engr. Glady Reyes of the Department of Science and Technology and Dr. Juliet Jeruta of the National Anti-Poverty Commission Sectoral Council for Women, were among the speakers at the event.*
