“Let us work together to create a society in which no Filipino is left behind and that every individual has the freedom, due to equal opportunities to achieve personal advancement and contribute to the progress of our country,” Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Monday, June 12.

Lacson, who spoke at the 125th Philippine Independence Day rites at the Capitol Park and Lagoon in Bacolod City, said Independence Day is more than just a date on the calendar, “it is a consistent reminder of our solemn duty to preserve our liberty, promote inclusive development, and work for the betterment of the lives of all Filipinos.”

To achieve these objectives, Filipinos must remain unified as a nation, and transcend self-interests, political differences, as well as regional, cultural, and social divisions, he said.

“Let us cultivate a culture of invention, creativity, entrepreneurship to drive our nation forward,” he said.

The governor also thanked the men and women who serve the country with dedication and selflessness, citing the troops, healthcare workers, teachers, public servants and all those who contribute to the advancement of society.

The governor also led the distribution of P900,000 worth of insurance benefits to barangay officials, employees and tanods who are beneficiaries of the Barangay Insurance Program of the Capitol.

Also present at the Independence Day rites were Negros Occidental Board Members Pal Guanzon and Valentino Miguel Alonso, and other government officials.

During the program a military helicopter dropped confetti in the colors of the Philippine flag over the Provincial Capitol Park and Lagoon.*
