Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and his team met with Philippine Consul General to Guam, Patrick John Hilado, at the Office of the Philippine Consulate General in Guam, USA, Tuesday, June 7.
They discussed investment opportunities, tourism promotions and the possibility of a sisterhood agreement between Negros Occidental and Guam, Charina Magallanes Tan, Executive Assistant IV and Provincial Information Officer, said.
Hilado is a Negrense.
Tan, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz and Provincial Tourism Officer Cheryl Decena are with the governor in Guam and will return to Negros Occidental on Friday, June 10.
The governor was invited to be guest of honor and speaker at the Independence Day celebration in Guam.
The consul’s office features a statue of Filipino hero, Apolinario Mabini, who was exiled to Guam after he was captured by the U.S. troops in December 1899, because he refused to swear allegiance to the United States, Tan said.*
