Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Friday, Sept. 5, that the recent New People’s Army killings are a concern and the Philippine Army and police are finding ways to immediately put a stop to it.
“They have been very active targeting very soft targets, I think this is just their way of saying that they are still around,” he said.
The governor reiterated his call for the Communist rebels to join government just like many of their comrades have done before.
The Roselyn Jean Pelle Command-New People’s Army (RJPC-NPA) claimed the killing of farmer Johnny Boy “Jemboy” dela Fuente, 35, in Brgy. Bug-ang, Toboso, on Thursday, and former barangay kagawad Pablo Brillantes, 54, in Brgy. San Pablo, Manapla, on Wednesday.
Ka Cecil Estrella, RJPC-NPA spokesperson, in a statement on Friday said in the last two days they launched consecutive punitive actions against “military spies”.
These actions reflect the enhanced capacity of RJPC-NPA units to conduct operations in populated areas and coordinate operations in different places, Estrella said.*
