Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson today, May 26, thanked members of the Association of Negros Producers (ANP) for their steadfast commitment to empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and for sustaining programs that open doors for local industries.
Lacson joined the ANP for the opening of the 33rd Bulawan Design Award and Innovative Food Competition, the 4th Pilak Awards, and the 3rd Balik Salig Crafts Competition, as well as the launch of the 40th Negros Trade Fair (NTF) at SM City Bacolod.
Also present at the launch were ANP chairperson Arlene Infante and NTF chairperson Mary Ann Colmenares.
“As we launch the 40th Negros Trade Fair, may this milestone remind us of how far the Negrense entrepreneurial spirit has come—and how much more we can achieve together through collaboration, innovation, and unity,” Lacson said in his speech.
For many years, the ANP, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, has provided opportunities for local artisans, food innovators, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs to showcase the best of what the province has to offer, he said.
“Through your dedication and vision, you have helped elevate Negrense products into symbols of quality, creativity, and world-class craftsmanship,” he added.
Lacson pointed out that MSMEs remain among the strongest drivers of economic growth and countryside development.
“We believe that when we invest in our local producers, we also invest in stronger communities, more inclusive opportunities, and a more resilient economy for future generations,” he said.
He said that the growing strength and competitiveness of Negrense MSMEs was recently seen at IFEX 2026 in Metro Manila.
From 27 participants last year, Negros Occidental increased its participation to 42 MSMEs this year. The delegation generated over ₱400,000 in retail sales and secured a potential ₱7.3 million in booked orders from buyers across the UAE, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, and the Philippines, Lacson said.
The governor also said the Balik SALIG Program creates opportunities for transformation, inclusion, and renewed hope for former rebels.
“This initiative reflects our continuing commitment to peace-building and inclusive development, ensuring that more Negrenses are given the opportunity to participate meaningfully in the growth and progress of our province,” he added.*
