Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the blessing and inauguration of the Center for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (CEMREID) at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, on Saturday, Dec. 13.
The CEMREID in Silay City is a P100-million facility developed through the collaboration of the Negros Occidental provincial government, Department of Health, and the World Bank.
It was established in response to the infrastructural gaps exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The facility is equipped with an emergency room, operating room, delivery room, and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), all designed to ensure efficient and safe patient management.
Its ground floor features an Infectious Emergency Room with two ambulance drop-off points and utilizes the province’s first Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) negative pressure system to enhance infection control.
Lacson said the new center underscores the provincial government’s commitment to providing responsive, modern, and life-saving healthcare services to every Negrense.
“This gives even greater meaning to my birthday, as we mark this key development that strengthens our province’s capacity to respond to health threats and safeguard the well-being of our people,” the governor said.
“The inauguration of this Center for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases is not only an advancement for the hospital, but an achievement for the entire province,” he added.
Lacson stressed that the provincial administration will continue to invest in government-run hospitals, the healthcare workforce, and systems that ensure no Negrense is left behind when it comes to health and safety.*
