Guv distributes P40M in ‘Tino’ aid to seven Neg. Occ. LGUs

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson distributed checks totaling P40 million in Typhoon “Tino” aid to seven Negros Occidental local government units at the Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

The Typhoon Tino financial assistance came from the Office of the President.

The assistance was received by mayors Ella Yulo of Moises Padilla, Miguel Yulo of Isabela, Jose Maria Alonso of Pontevedra, Mayette Javellana-Yao of Bago City, and Mary Grace Arceo of Hinigaran, as well as other LGU representatives.

Under the assistance program, P10 million each were allotted to La Castellana, Moises Padilla, and La Carlota City; P5 million each to Bago City, Binalbagan, and Hinigaran; and P2.5 million each to Isabela and Pontevedra.

The P10-million allocation for La Carlota City will be released upon compliance with the required legal documents.

The recipient LGUs are limited to distributing only up to P5,000 per typhoon victim, Lacson said.

“Even if the amount is small, it is important because people will still receive help,” Garcia-Yulo said.

She thanked the president and the governor for the additional P10-million assistance for Moises Padilla. The President also earlier allocated P10 million in assistance to Moises Padilla, Garcia-Yulo said.

The mayor said the distribution of the P20 million will be discussed by Moises Padilla officials on Thursday.

She clarified that the financial assistance is not limited to housing support and may also be used for food and other recovery needs of affected residents.*
