Guv denies NPC endorsing BBM, says he’s still for Leni

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson on Sunday, April 3, said that Nationalist People’s Coalition chairman Vicente Sotto III has denied the report that the NPC had endorsed presidential bet Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his running mate Sara Duterte.

Sotto, who is running for vice president with presidential bet Panfilo Lacson, in a statement Sunday, said “while regional and/or provincial chapters may have their preferred list of candidates, such choices do not reflect the NPC as a national coalition of political allies and people’s group.”

“It an unacceptable and desperate move to optimize lies and exaggerated optics”, Sotto said of the claim that the NPC is supporting Marcos and Duterte.

“As a result of so many years of leniency on the part of NPC, the party finds it hard to get support from its own members”, Lacson, an NPC member, said.

Lacson said he will continue to support the presidential bid of Leni Robredo and Sotto for vice president.

“Like everywhere in the country, Leni in Negros has to constantly exert effort to take a win,” Lacson also stressed.

Meanwhile, a display and skits on human rights violations in Negros Occidental during the regime of the late president Ferdinand Marcos were staged in front of the Saint Michael the Archangel Parish in Pontevedra town during the weekend, Fr. Armand Onion said.

This was done to remind the people not to forget the past when they vote in May, he said.*
