Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has convened a Provincial Food and Drinking Water Quality Monitoring Committee to ensure regular monitoring of potential threats to public health.
It is tasked with taking preventive measures versus cases of food and waterborne diseases, Lacson said on Monday, Oct. 28.
Every local government unit should have a similar committee, he said.
The committee should monitor especially potable water to prevent cholera and typhoid, he said.
“It’s the first time that we met and we will see to it that it will be a functional committee,” he said.
The committee, primarily comprised of staff from the Provincial Health Office, is tasked with ensuring that water is safe for human consumption, as well as for wildlife and marine life, a statement from the Capitol said.
Their responsibilities include identifying sources of water pollution or food poisoning and developing strategies for sustainable water source management and sanitation, all while promoting and safeguarding public health, the statement added.*
