Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson called the top corporate and individual real property taxpayers on Negros Occidental new heroes “in this time of time of great need”.

The top taxpayers were honored during the “Pasidungog sa mga Bag-o nga Baganihan sang Probinsiya (Awards for the New Heroes of the Province)” ceremony at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall Wednesday night.

The awardees under the Corporate Category were the Negros Island Solar Power Inc., Binalbagan Isabela Sugar Company, Manapla Sun Power Development Corporation, Asian Alcohol Corporation, and Tanduay Distillers Inc.

The awardees for the Individual Category were Ricardo C. Silverio,, Apolinario D. Rijon, Rachel B. Tan, Ervin A. Maravilla, Jr., and Abelardo D. Bantug III.

Heroes are products of the call of their times, Lacson said.

“As we pursue recovery from the adverse consequences of the COVID crisis and gradually ease into the new normal, the need to raise resources is of paramount importance, thus, taxation,” he said that is why for this year’s Pasidungog the provincial government honored the outstanding corporate and individual taxpayers.

“While there is patent heroism in the rising up of arms against those who threaten our freedom; there is also honor and heroism in the honest fulfillment of duties, particularly in this age where such discharge is treated by some as an option. As the lifeblood of the government, the proper and unhindered collection of taxes is of utmost import,” Lacson said.

He thanked the outstanding taxpayers for dutifully and religiously meeting their real property tax dues, and being exemplary examples to the people of Negros Occidental.

“Be assured that your taxes are being used sensibly and judiciously for the greatest possible benefit to our people and province,” Lacson added.*
