Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Thursday, June 2, that incentives will be given to barangay health workers (BHWs) to further speed up the COVID-19 mass vaccination drive in Negros Occidental.

BHWs will be given P25 for every individual they convince to get fully vaccinated, he said.

“We’re still very dependent on the local government units, especially the barangay health, workers to convince people in their respective communities, to get vaccinated,” Lacson said.

Rice assistance of 5 kilos will also be given to those who are fully vaccinated, he said.

The eight-day provincewide simultaneous mass vaccination against COVID-19 in June kicked off on Thursday.

The mass vaccination days will be conducted on Thursdays and Fridays in the first three weeks of June, and on Monday and Tuesday on the fourth week.

Negros Occidental has fully vaccinated 63.61 percent of its target population, and 58.97 of its target senior citizens.

Meanwhile, Lacson reiterated that he has no intention of closing Negros Occidental’s borders with Panay following five more persons hit by the COVID-19 Omicron Sub-variant BA. 2.12.1 in Iloilo City.

The detection of the sub-variant cases is a reminder that COVID-19 is still around and there is a need to continue to protect ourselves, he added.*
