Government offices closed Wednesday; Focus on essence of Holy Week, guv says

Government employees in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City will transition to a work-from-home arrangement from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, with work suspended in the afternoon to allow them to prepare for Holy Week.

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya said this is in compliance with Memorandum Circular No. 116, issued by the Office of the President on Tuesday.

Lacson directed all department heads to ensure that deliverables are completed remotely during the morning hours.

However, agencies involved in health services, disaster response, and other vital functions will maintain normal operations to ensure the continuous delivery of basic services, Lacson and Gasataya said.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office will be on blue alert, while Bacolod City’s response units will be on red alert throughout the long weekend.

Lacson urged the public to reflect on the spiritual significance of the season, reminding Negrenses to focus on the true reason Holy Week is celebrated.

"Don’t drink and drive," the governor added, further reminding motorists to exercise extreme caution on the road during the holidays.

In a separate directive, Lacson designated Board Member Genaro Alvarez IV as acting vice governor of Negros Occidental from March 30 to April 10.

The designation ensures the stable delivery of social services while Vice Governor Jose Benito A. Alonso is on official leave, he said.*
