Global Initiative Center for Exchange launched in partnership with Kyungpook National University

The University of St. La Salle (USLS) and Kyungpook National University (KNU) in Daegu, South Korea formalized a key milestone in their three-year cooperation agreement with the unveiling of the Global Initiative Center for Exchange (GIC-E) signboard at the Language Learning Program Center, recently.

Held during KNU’s courtesy visit to the campus on Nov 19,  the ceremony marked the establishment of the GIC-E at the University, a dedicated platform aimed at enhancing international cooperation and promoting global academic excellence between the two universities, a press release from USLS said.

Representing the University during the event were Br. President Joaquin Severino Martinez,  Vice Chancellor for Mission and Development Mark Christopher Dueñas, Center for Linkages and International Affairs OIC – Director June Carl Seran, Admissions and Scholarships Administration Office Director Jennifer Pabalinas, and Continuing Education Director, Leizel Del Sol.

The KNU delegation was led by KNU Language Education Center Director Dr. Jeongho Chang, along with  Jaehong An,  Sunyoung Kim, and Heejoung Woo.

The launch of the GIC-E follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the USLS and KNU in  September, which laid the groundwork for collaborative programs in student and faculty exchanges, curriculum alignment, joint research, double degree initiatives, and joint academic activities.

Prior to the signboard opening ceremony, KNU representatives paid a courtesy visit to University administrators, exchanging insights on best practices, discussing the experiences of Korean exchange students in the campus, and exploring opportunities for collaboration.

KNU is one of the ten flagship national universities in South Korea. Currently, it ranks third worldwide in the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2025 which assesses the outstanding contributions of universities to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.*
