Victorias City was named among the Top 5 local government units in the Visayas for the nationwide Tourism Champions Challenge on Monday, October 16.
Victorias City’s proposal, “A Birder’s Paradise”, in the Gawahon Eco-Park is among the overall Top 15 LGU tourism proposals in the Philippines, alongside being in the Top 5 in Visayas, a press release from the city said Tuesday.
In February, the Department of Tourism launched the Tourism Champions Challenge as a nationwide campaign to boost tourism development in all cities and municipalities in the Philippines.
Victorias City was the only LGU in Negros Occidental to be listed among the winners.
Victorias joined Badian of Cebu, Panay of Capiz, Silago of Southern Leyte, and Tubigon of Bohol in the Top 5 LGUs in Visayas.
The winning project proposal of Victorias aims to develop a birdwatching site at the Gawahon Eco-Park, which will create a suitable environment for various bird species and provide enhanced amenities and infrastructures to cater to birdwatching activities.
Through the project, the city hopes to establish the Gawahon Eco-Park as a “world-renowned Birder’s Paradise and a preferred eco-tourism destination in the country”.*
