Mayor Joedith Gallego said on Tuesday, February 20, that he directed the City Engineer’s Office to make the temporary market stalls in Silay City bigger.
When the about 274 temporary stalls are set up, the construction of the Silay City public market building can start, Gallego said.
The construction of the P300 million Silay public market building and renovation is expected to be completed in a year and half, he said.
Silay resident Maritel Riego Ledesma in a Facebook post said the temporary stalls are ”itsy bitsy rectangular spaces that look smaller than a commercial bathroom” made of flimsy materials.
These eyesores are also being built smack in the middle of Silay’s heritage zones, she said. What does the Silay Heritage Committee have to say about this? she asked.*
