Free food safety webinar set

The first of a series of free webinars with the title “Food Safety Talks: Safe Food Saves Lives” will be held via Zoom 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, Doreen Alicia “Reena” Gamboa, Association of Negros Producers – Foundation for Enterprise Development Inc. (AFEDI) president, said.

“In these times when safety is a top priority, we must also look into how we can keep our food safe – not only for food at home but, more importantly, for those of us who are involved in the food industry,” she said.

There is a need to learn more about how to maintain the highest standards of food safety by listening to the experts, she said, that is why AFEDI in cooperation with the province of Negros Occidental is presenting a series of talks and videos to tackle the subject.

The first guest speaker at the webinar will be Dr. Regina P. Berba, Associate Professor of the UP College of Medicine, and head of the Hospital Infection Control Unit of the Philippine General Hospital. She will speak on “Food Business and the Pandemic: What We Need to Know?”.

The next guest speaker will be Dr. Teresita Cucueco, director of the Bureau of Working Conditions of the Department of Labor and Employment. She will speak on “Pandemic as an Occupational Hazard in the Food Industry: The Labor and Legal Implications”.

“Clearly, these topics are now essential to each and every company that is in the food providing industry. Definitely a talk that should not be missed,” Gamboa said.

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Gamboa will deliver messages at the webinar.

To add more insight to the topics in the perspective of food providers, local restaurateurs David Ian Jarvis of Jarvis Gourmet Foods, Bobby Magalona of Café Bob’s, and Nestor Evaristo of Aboy’s Restaurant, will be reactors during this event, she said.

Moderating will be Ana Maria Isabel V. Salacata of the Negrense Food Consultancy Group.
For more information on how to be part of this and the rest of the series, one can send a message to the organizers on the AFEDI Facebook page, Gamboa said.*
