Four meted life sentences for sale of drugs to cops

A Bacolod Regional Trial Court judge has sentenced four Bacolod residents to life imprisonment for the sale of drugs to policemen in buy-bust operations.

Sentenced by Executive Judge Raymond Joseph Javier of RTC Branch 52 to life imprisonment were Cyril Borerro Cuadra, Emelou Beronio Costelo alias Matet, Roderic de Guzman Cordero and Nelson de Asis Dewara alias “Moki”.

Cuadra was found guilty for the sale of .103 gram of shabu for P500 to a policeman at his house in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2, Bacolod City, on June 11, 2020 and was sentenced to life imprisonment and to pay a fine of P1 million on Tuesday, June 21.

He was also found guilty of possession of 31.880 grams of shabu and sentenced to life imprisonment and to pay a fine of P1 million.

Costelo and Cordero were found guilty for the sale of .470 gram of shabu for P1,000 to a policeman at Purok Green Plains, Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, on March 12, 2020, and were sentenced by Javier to life imprisonment and to pay a fine of P500,000 on Thursday, June 23.

Costelo was also found guilty of possession of 16.508 grams of shabu and sentence to another life imprisonment and to pay P500,000.

Cordero was found guilty of possession of 1.289 grams of shabu and sentenced to 12 years and eight months as minimum to 17 years and eight months as maximum imprisonment and to pay a fine of P300,000.

Dewara was found guilty for the sale of .040 gram of shabu to a policeman for P300 at Purok Abada Escay, Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City, on Dec. 17, 2019 and sentenced to life imprisonment and to pay a fined of P500,000 on Thursday.

He was also found guilty for the possession of 1.995 grams of shabu and sentenced to 12 years and eight months as minimum to 17 years and eight months as maximum imprisonment and to pay a fine of P300,000.

Javier ordered the immediate transfer of Cuadra, Cordero and Dewara to the National Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, and Costelo to the Correctional Institution of Women in Mandaluyong City for the service of their sentences.

He also ordered the turnover of the seized drugs to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6 office for destruction.*
