Former rebels get cash assistance

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-6 distributed cash assistance to eight former rebels during a ceremony at the 62nd Infantry Battalion headquarters in Brgy. Libas, Isabela, Negros Occidental, Wednesday, August 14.

The  DSWD-6 distributed cash assistance worth P3,000 each to the eight former rebels, which is stipulated under the Executive Order No. 70 or the “Whole-of-Nation Approach to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC)”.

The  EO 70 has been pivotal in addressing the root causes of insurgency as it unites various government agencies, the private sector, and other stakeholders, to deliver comprehensive support to former rebels, ensuring their successful reintegration into civilian life, the 62IB said in a press release.

Lt. Col. Evelio Ilanga III, 62IB acting commander, said that it is important to have initiatives like this as it helps the former rebels have a positive impact to their communities.

He also recognized the former rebels for returning to the fold of the law and assured them of the government’s continued support as they embark on a peaceful and productive journey.

The Army also said that in partnership with the DSWD, they are dedicated to implementing sustainable livelihood opportunities to foster peaceful and progressive communities.*
