Former Negros Oriental police director new chief PNP

The former director of the Negros Oriental police is now the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief.

Lt. Gen. Dionardo Carlos will replace Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, who will formally relinquish the top PNP post on Friday, November 12, ahead of his 56th birthday and compulsory retirement date on November 13 after serving 38 years in the uniformed services.

Carlos will formally assume command as the 27th chief PNP on Friday. He was the 4th in command under Eleazar as the chief of the PNP Directorial Staff.

Carlos, an alumnus of the Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class 1988, has also served a well-rounded career in all his designations to key positions in the PNP, including director for Integrated Police Operations (DIPO) in the Visayas.

He also served as chief of the PNP Public Information Office and spokesperson of the national headquarters, regional director of the Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas, and provincial police director of Negros Oriental and Quezon provinces.

Eleazar said Carlos possesses all the qualifications for the position, and President Rodrigo Duterte found him tailor-fit for the criteria he wants for the chief PNP.

“Gen. Carlos has this position cut out for him based on his seniority, track record, and professional competence,” he added.*
