Cynthia Dela Cruz, former three-term mayor of Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB), Negros Occidental, passed away at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City at 12:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21.
She was 73.
She had been undergoing dialysis treatment for three years and was in and out of the hospital six times this year, her son Negros Occidental Board Member Marxlen Dela Cruz, said.
While his mother was undergoing hemodialysis on Wednesday, she suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and went into a coma, he said.
“She was a strong woman who was determined and brave. She fought not only for us but for everyone,” the board member said.
“She was the rock of our family,” he said.
Cynthia Dela Cruz, who also served as DSB vice mayor for two terms, was the wife of former Salvador Benedicto mayor and board member Nehemias Dela Cruz.
She is survived by her children Marxlen, Shalom, and Nehemiah – the current DSB mayor.
Further details on the schedule of her wake and interment will be announced later, the board member said.*
