Flooding hits Cadiz

Heavy rain caused flooding in some areas in Cadiz City on Saturday afternoon, June 7, but it subsided soon after, Mayor Salvador Escalante said.

The Cadiz City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that at about 1 p.m. Saturday heavy rain caused flooding in the city proper.

The CDRRMO team was immediately deployed to monitor and assess the situation. They inspected various creeks and rivers to ensure public safety, the CDRRMO said.Floodwater in the city proper began to subside by approximately 5 p.m., it added.

Escalante said efforts have been underway to mitigate flooding in Cadiz City.

Long arm backhoes are being used to clear waterways to prevent flooding, he said.

He said 70 percent of the work in waterways in barangays Luna, Daga and Zone 1, have been undertaken.*
