Flooding brought on by heavy rain and the shear line caused 261 families with 784 members from seven barangays in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, to evacuate on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
The majority of the evacuees returned home later in the day when the water subsided, Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante said.
The affected barangays were Luna, Daga, Caduhaan, Burgos, Sicaba, Cabahug and Mabini.
The floods destroyed one house and damaged one.
Due to the heavy rainfall and the risk of flooding caused by the shear line, classes at all levels (public and private) in Cadiz City were suspended on Wednesday until further notice to ensure everyone’s safety, the mayor said.
Face-to-face classes will temporarily transition to the Alternative Delivery Mode until the suspension is lifted, he said.
Flooding also occurred in barangays Santa Teresa and 1A in Manapla but subsided soon after, Mayor Manuel Escalante said.*
