The recent heavy rain and flooding caused the death of 3,108 farm animals worth P3.3 million in 15 towns and cities in Negros Occidental, Provincial Veterinarian Placeda Lemana said on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
They died from drowning, hypothermia, pneumonia, starvation, diarrhea and dehydration, she said.
The bulk of the farm animals that died were chickens, she said.
The final Provincial Veterinary Office report on the animal deaths, caused by the foul weather, said 402 households in 71 barangays in the 1st. 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th districts of Negros Occidental were affected.
Isabela had the highest farm animal deaths at 1,108 followed by Valladolid with 651, Bago City – 437, Sipalay City – 234, Pulupandan -179, San Enrique – 134, Hinigaran – 99, La Carlota City – 91, Pontevedra – 79, Don Salvador Benedicto – 48, Silay City- 39, Talisay City – 4, Victorias City – 3, Candoni – 1 and Ilog -1.
