A 44-year-old fisherman drowned while harvesting angel wings or “diwal” in Purok 4, Brgy. Palaka l, Valladolid, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday morning, May 13.
Police identified the victim as alias “Bert,” a resident of Brgy. Poblacion.
Initial investigation by the Valladolid Municipal Police Station showed the victim and several divers went to the area at around 6 a.m. to harvest diwal.
After several minutes of diving, his companions noticed that he failed to resurface.
They searched for him underwater and later found him submerged.
The victim was retrieved and brought to shore.
Responding Bantay Dagat personnel brought him to the Valladolid District Hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending physician.*
