First Gen’s geothermal arm, Energy Development Corporation (EDC), recently turned over five laptops to incoming freshmen scholars, at the Citadines Hotel in Bacolod City.
The scholars, coming from EDC’s host communities in Negros Occidental, are supported under the company’s banner education initiative that provides holistic support to the youth, a press release from First Gen said Tuesday, September 1.
The laptops, together with pocket wifi devices, are part of the EDC’s support for its scholars to equip them with the necessary tools for their studies. The recipients are Princess Joanne Aceron, Jamilla Peñaflor, Chreashel Jane Milo, Valerie Llasos and Kyla Carina Dela Rosa.
“We believe that investing in education can help them become future change-drivers not only within their respective host communities but also across their spheres of influence,” Erwin B. Magallanes, head of Negros Corporate Relations, said.
Beyond the college scholarships, EDC’s SIKAT program also extends its support to schools through the school supplies distribution. On August 17, the company distributed 1,037 bags for three schools in Barangay Mailum, making this their third distribution for the year. *
