A fire destroyed four houses and damaged two others in Purok Katilingban 2, Barangay 39, Bacolod City, 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, February 8.

The destruction was estimated at P150,000, Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, city fire marshal, said Wednesday.

The fire began from the makeshift house of Larry Fernandez who said he had gone out to drink when the fire hit, Legaspi said.

Fernandez said before he left his house he had cooked his food on an improvised stove made of a can fueled by small pieces of dried wood, Legaspi added.

However, the embers may have not been fully extinguished and hit the tarpaulins that were used as the walls of the house of Fernandez, Legaspi said.

Destroyed by the fire were the houses of Fernandez, Edwin Faroso Sonie Ablero and Junipher Mahilum, and damaged were those of Claudio Villareal Jr. and Roger Fundales.*
