Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4th District) is seeking the national government’s swift release of funds to hasten rehabilitation of infrastructure in the 4th District of Negros Occidental damaged by Typhoon Tino.
The typhoon-damaged school buildings and bridges in the 4th District need to be repaired, and permanent relocation sites are needed for those left homeless by the typhoon, he said.
He conveyed the needs of his district during a meeting with Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco and Education Secretary Sonny Angara at the Governor’s Office in Bacolod City on Tuesday, November 11.
Ferrer said if rehabilitation work starts in December, it can be completed in six to eight months.
He also said the approach of a bridge damaged by the typhoon also needs to be repaired as it is vital for the delivery of sugarcane to the La Carlota Sugar Central.
The longer route that small farmers will have to take will increase their fuel costs, he said.
He also called on the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to impose stricter policies on development work in the upper part of Bago City and other areas to protect the environment.*
