
A chairman of a Paghiliusa sa Mangunguma chapter in Escalante City was shot dead today, February 2, Clarizza Dagatan, Karapatan Negros secretary-general, said.
Antonio “Cano” Baluarte Arellano, 54, was shot dead at Purok Buli, Barangay Malasibog, Escalante City, Negros Occidental, at 5 a.m. , PSSgt Marfen Nobleza of the Escalante police said tonight.
Arellano, an Escalante City Hall watchman, was shot by a lone gunman who was accompanied by three other persons who acted as lookouts, Nobleza said.
Arellano was the chairman of Paghiliusa sa Mangunguma sa Sitio Binabono (PMSB) in Brgy. Jonob-jonob, Escalante City, a peasant organization under the National Federation of Sugar Workers, Dagatan said
He was shot on his head, arm, and hand, she said, adding that he has a wife and three children.
Nobleza said 14 empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol were recovered at the scene of the crime.*
