Farmer shot dead after basketball game in Kabankalan

A 40-year-old farmer was shot dead by two unidentified suspects shortly after playing basketball in Purok Narra, Barangay Tabugon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Monday, July 21.

Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., Kabankalan Police Chief, said the victim had just finished a game when he was approached by the assailants.

He tried to run away but was chased and shot multiple times, sustaining fatal wounds to his buttocks and head.

He was rushed to the Kabankalan City Hospital but was declared dead.

Indiape said investigators are looking into illegal drugs and a possible personal grudge as the motive behind the killing.

The victim reportedly had previous barangay records for alleged theft and was also said to have been involved in drug use, based on accounts from his family.

The police said they are pursuing leads and are working to identify the suspects as the investigation continues.*
