Farmer associations receive composting facilities

Eight farmer associations in Negros Occidental received composting facilities for their respective groups during the ceremonial turnover of equipment held at Negros First Organic Technology Center  in Brgy. Tabunan, Bago City, on October 2

.The recipients were the Amicus Agrarian Reform Association, Cambarus Small Water Irrigation System Association, Farmers Association of Balingasag, Hda. Nasipunan Women Association, Magcorao Upland Farmers Association, MBA Forest Integrated Farm, Sitio Catabla Ambulong Farmers and Farmworkers Association, and United Ilijan Agricultural Workers for Sustainable Development.

A composting facility made by RU Foundry and Machine Shop  converts biodegradable waste — such as food scraps, agricultural residues, and other organic materials — into nutrient-rich compost through a natural decomposition process, thereby helping manage waste, improve soil, and protect the environment.

The turnover was facilitated by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, led by Dr. Dina Genzola, together with Engr. Florante Bade, Engr. Laila Dela Cruz, and Engr. Nezle Pasunilao, all from the Bureau of Soils and Water Managemen.

The project recipients attended a seminar on Capacity Enhancement on the Operation and Maintenance of the Composting Facility for Biodegradable Wastes prior to the turnover of the farm equipment, a provincial government post on its Facebook page said.

The activity aimed to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to operate and maintain the facility efficiently and to support the province’s advocacy for sustainable and environment-friendly farming practices, it added.*
