A farm laborer hacked a barangay tanod to death with a cane cutter causing his head to nearly be severed in Brgy. Mansablay, Isabela, Negros Occidental, at 11 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, the town police chief said.
Killed was Ruben Casagan Teves, 58, who was hacked multiple times by Jason Bartolo Piojo, 25, Maj. Joseph Partidas, Isabela police chief, said Wednesday.
The suspect and victim are from Brgy. Mansablay.
The suspect told the police he killed Teves in revenge for the death of his father in 2006, Partidas said.
The suspect had been working in Manila and only returned to Isabela a month ago.
Teves who was on his way home from a birthday party was attacked by Piojo who was hiding in a dark part of a sugarcane field, Partidas said.
Piojo first hacked the victim on the back of his neck, and continued to hack him on different parts of his body when he fell, the police chief added.
The victim was brought to the Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Isabela where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A police team led by Partidas conducted a hot pursuit operation which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
The suspect is now detained at the Isabela police station and murder charges will be filed against him, Partidas said.*
