Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran on Saturday, August 28, urged barangay-based youth to be aware of their social responsibility to their communities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Familiaran, who addressed the Barangay Alijis KK (Katipunan ng Kabataan) Assembly and Linggo ng Kabataan 2021 celebration, lauded the participants led by SK Chairman Reymar Berja for their proposed community pantry in the village that will cater to the needs of the poor, a press release from the Bacolod Public Information Office said.
“It is commendable that you are serving your community at a young age. It is good training ground for you as future leaders of the city,” the vice mayor said.
Also at the KK’s morning assembly were Alijis Barangay Captain Deogracias Dela Vega and Police Capt. Elmer Bonilla, Police Station 7 chief.
Familiaran said that in the face of the health crisis, it is imperative that young leaders must always keep themselves informed as knowledge empowers them to make the right decisions.
“You have to be conscious of your social responsibility; spend time to read because knowledge is power. Take time to also listen to news. You have to keep yourselves informed as future leaders,” Familiaran reminded assembly attendees.
It is worth mentioning, he said, that the Covid-19 infections in Bacolod have been at manageable levels in the last 20 days as shown in data from the Emergency Operations Center and the regional office of the Department of Health.*
