Espino filing resolution seeking 2nd Bacolod congressional district

Bacolod Councilor Al Victor Espino*

Councilor Al Victor Espino announced on Thursday, July 10, that he is filing a resolution before the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) urging Congress to reapportion Bacolod City into two congressional districts.

Espino said this resolution is needed for Bacolod Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to pursue the passage of a law creating a second congressional district for Bacolod City.

He plans to file his resolution before the SP during its regular session next week, Espino said.

Espino said having two districts will mean a larger share of national government funds for Bacolod, which will accelerate the city’s programs and projects.

Benitez had earlier said that he would refile the bill of former Rep. Greg Gasataya, which sought the creation of a second congressional district for Bacolod.

This effort will require a resolution of support from the Bacolod SP, he said.

Benitez is expected to attend the SP session next week.*
