EBM enforces ordinance vs. ‘double dead’ pork

E.B. Magalona in Negros Occidental is enforcing a municipal ordinance that prohibits the selling and distribution of double-dead pork meat within the town.

Municipal Ordinance No. 8 series of 2023 entitled “An Ordinance Prohibiting the Transportation, Distribution, Storing, and/or Selling of Double Dead (Pork) Meat in all Markets within the Territorial Jurisdiction of the Municipality of E.B. Magalona and Providing Penalties Thereof” was approved unanimously by the Sangguniang Bayan, and was enacted June 5.

The ordinance states that with the spread of African swine fever and other animal diseases in the province, there is a need to regulate, monitor, and standardize proper hygienic requirements to ensure the quality standard of meat in all markets in E. B. Magalona.

It said that there is a need to adopt intensive measures against individuals or groups of individuals that sell or offer to sell double-dead meat in local markets in order to protect the public from any food-borne illnesses and other communicable diseases.

The ordinance covers all pork and pork by-products whether coming from inside or outside of E. B. Magalona.

Those violating the ordinance will be fined up to P2,500 and/or face imprisonment for three months, the ordinance added.*
