Teatro Laragway, representing E. B. Magalona, was adjudged champion in the 2nd Provincial SayAwit Para sa Kalikasan competition held at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City Thursday, November 9.
The competition was part of the 19th Provincial Wildlife Month, spearheaded by the Negros Occidental provincial government, a press release from EB Magalona said.
The group is set to receive P10,000 in cash for besting 12 other groups that represented their respective LGUs in the provincewide competition.
Teatro Laragway was also declared champion in the same competition during its first edition last year, as part of the 18th Provincial Wildlife Month.
Raffy Berina, the group’s coach, thanked, among others, Mayor Marvin Malacon and MENRO-designate Jojo Vargas for their strong support to Teatro Laragway.
In 2019, Teatro Laragway was also the champion in the Cultural Presentation of the 15th Provincial Wildlife Month.
The Teatro Laragway dancers, all students of E. B. Magalona National High School, were trained and choreographed by EBMNHS English teachers Berina and Therese Marie Bedonia.
In 2013, Berina founded Teatro Laragway, a theater and performing arts group based in E. B. Magalona. Since then, the group has earned prestigious awards and recognitions in various dance, singing, and performing arts competitions from the division to the regional and national levels, the press release said.
Last week Berina was named Outstanding Negrense for 2023 in the field of education for his “distinguished, exceptional contributions” to the academe, especially in the development of culture and the arts.*
