Rep. Rodante Marcoleta (SAGIP Party-list) called the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte “the craziest and most anomalous thing that happened to this country”.
Marcoleta, who is running for senator, was in Bacolod City on Wednesday, March 19.
Marcoleta said he is running as an independent but has been adopted by the Partido Federal ng Maharlika, People’s Reform Party and Partido Demokratiko Pilipino.
He claimed that the arrest and the turnover of Duterte to the International Criminal Court in the Hauge was illegal since the Philippines is no longer a member of the ICC. There was also no actual presence of International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) personnel during Duterte’s arrest, Marcoleta said.
The ICC should temporarily release Duterte from detention because he is not in good health and needs to be cared for, Marcoleta also said.
Vice President Sara Duterte told the media her father is at a hospital facility of the Hague Penitentiary Facility.
She said the doctors have taken note of his list of medicines and have been provided with his medical records.
Marcoleta said “people are angry, there is an emerging crisis in this country” following Duterte’s arrest which he hopes does not escalate.
If he is elected senator he will push for lower power rates, measures to improve agriculture, and fight corruption, Marcoleta said.*
