DSWD to distribute ₱240M in fuel subsidy to 48,000 Negros tricycle drivers on April 8

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to initially distribute ₱240 million in fuel subsidies to 48,000 tricycle drivers in 22 local government units across Negros Island starting April 8.

Under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, each driver will receive ₱5,000 to help cushion the impact of the rising fuel costs, DSWD Negros Island Region Director Arwin Razo said on Thursday, March 26.

The recipients will be from the 19 cities of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, as well as the municipalities of E.B. Magalona, Pulupandan, and Murcia.

Razo said that the lists of drivers are based on those issued franchises or permits by the Business Permits and Licensing Offices of the respective LGUs.

He said the DSWD is ensuring there will be no duplication of recipients during the distribution process.

Razo also reported that the DSWD has already distributed 97 percent of the emergency cash assistance to Typhoon Tino victims on Negros Island.

To date, the agency has released ₱1,148,264,719 to 196,045 beneficiaries in Negros Island, the DSWD reported Thursday afternoon.*
