Drug suspect escapes police custody in Silay

A 19-year-old drug suspect escaped from police custody while undergoing a medical examination in Silay City, Negros Occidental, on Monday afternoon, Jan. 5.

Police identified the escapee as Robine Dela Cruz, a resident of Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City.

The Silay City Police Station said the suspect was arrested for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The escape happened at around 5:01 p.m. at the Silay City Health Office in Brgy. 5.

Authorities said the suspect was being escorted by police officers along with two other suspects for medical examination.

Police said the suspect managed to escape while the officers were waiting for the completion of the medical procedure of another suspect.

A hot pursuit operation was immediately launched by personnel of the Silay City Police Station.

Police said an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the escape.*
