Drought has not affected irrigated rice crops: Diaz

The drought has not affected rice crops in the 12,000 hectares covered by the Bago River Irrigation System (BRIS) in Negros Occidental, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz assured on Sunday, March 3.

In fact he was informed that in the south section of the BRIS, there are some farmers harvesting up to six tons per hectare, Diaz said.

The BRIS covers Bago City , La Carlota City, Bacolod City, Murcia, Pulupandan, San Enrique and Valladolid.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist earlier reported that mostly rainfed rice lands in southern Negros Occidental have been affected by the drought, with damage reaching to P55.4 million.*
