Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan is expected to keynote the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) 48th National Convention and Technical Conference at the SMX Convention Center in Bacolod City on Friday, November 11.
The two-day hybrid convention will bring in more than 4,000 delegates from all over the country with another 12,000 who signed up for the online sessions. This year’s convention with the theme, “Civil Engineering and its Specializations: Responding to Our New Normal and Foreseeing our Futures,” is the first national gathering of the organization post the pandemic.
On Thursday, three sports tournaments will kick-off starting with the golf tournament in the morning and the bowling and billiard competitions in the afternoon at the Negros Golf and Country Club in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod.
The formal rites on Friday will start with the opening of the Construction Technologies, Services and Building Materials Exhibit by PICE National President, Engr. Ador Canlas, and the national board of directors.
Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer is expected to grace the event to give a welcome message while Engr. Eugenio Pipo, Jr., the 2022 PRC Most Outstanding Civil Engineer and former PICE national president, will give an inspirational message.
Former Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Dr. William Padolina, will give a special lecture entitled “Pagtatanaw 2050: Science, Technology and Innovation Foresight for the Philippines and Potential Implications for Infrastructure,” Friday afternoon.
A lecture on “How far are we from understanding the nature of earthquakes, hazards and risks? Lessons from the 27 July 2022 Northwestern Luzon Magnitude 7 earthquake” will be presented by Engr. Rhommel Grutas of DOST- PHIVOLCS.
There will also be the awarding of the Lakambining Inhinyera and winners for PICE National Awards for 2022 during the plenary session.*
