Dr.  Adriano Suba-an,  DOH Western Visayas regional director*

The Department of Health is closely monitoring the water in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, that was contaminated following  the  Kanlaon Volcano eruption to prevent an outbreak of diseases, such as diarrhea, Dr.  Adriano Suba-an,  DOH Western Visayas regional director, said  Wednesday, June 26.

Suba-an, who visited La Castellana on Tuesday, said samples from 13 water sources in the town were positive for contamination.

Residents have been advised not to drink water from sources that have not been declared safe.

The DOH will be transferring its mobile water treatment plant from La Carlota City to La Castellana where it is needed, Suba-an said.

He assured that the DOH will continue to regularly test water in La Carlota City and La Castellana to prevent disease outbreaks.

Suba-an said he also went to La Castellana to look into the health needs of its internally displaced residents.*
