Dengue related deaths in Negros now 17: PHO

The dengue related deaths in Negros Occidental this year have increased to 17, the Provincial Health Office reported on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Negros Occidental also recorded 5,867 dengue cases from January to Nov. 12 this year.

The cases are 336.21 percent or 4,522 higher compared to the 1,345 cases in the same period last year, the PHO reported.

The 11 to 20 years old age group has the most number of dengue cases this year, it also said.

Bago still has the most number of cases in Negros Occidental at 737 followed by San Carlos City with 456, Hinoba-an – 413, Talisay City – 360, Sagay City – 357, Cauayan – 356, Silay City 349, Kabankalan City 348, Cadiz City – 307 and Sipalay City – 284.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection that is endemic to the Philippines.

The Department of Health advises the public to follow the 4-S campaign against dengue – search and destroy mosquito habitat, self-protect, seek early consultation and say yes to fogging only when there is an impending outbreak or a hotspot.*
