Dengue cases in NegOcc up 183 percent, PHO says

Dengue cases in Negros Occidental have hit 2,822 this year, or 183.62 percent higher than in 2023, Dr. Girlie Pinongan, provincial health officer, said on Friday, August 30.

The 2,822 cases as of August 24, were 414 higher than the   2,408 cases on August 17.

There have been six dengue related deaths this year. The most dengue cases are from the   1 to 10 years old age group, Pinongan said.

Hinoba-an had the most number of cases at 314, followed by Sipalay City with 222 and Bago City with 207.

But Pinongan said it appears that the rise in the dengue cases was less lately with fewer persons admitted at hospitals and seen at their fast lanes.

This could be because of the stepped up clean up drives and information drives being conducted by local government units, she said.

Hopefully the cases will go down but they are continuing to keep a close watch with the onset of the rainy season, she said.*
