Dengue cases drop by 11.1% in March

Recent data from the Bacolod City Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (BCESU) showed an 11.1 percent drop in Dengue cases this March compared to the same month last year.

City Health Office Environment Sanitation Division head Dr. Grace Tan, in a press release, said the city recorded 40 cases with only one death as of March 9, in contrast to 45 reported dengue cases and two deaths in 2021.

Barangay Singcang recorded the most number of cases with six, followed by Barangay Mandalagan with five, Granada and Mansilingan – four, Estefania and Cabug – three, and Barangays Alijis, Tangub, Sum-ag and Banago – two dengue victims each, she added.

She also reminded the public to be aware of leptospirosis, a severe bacterial infection that affects both humans and animals.

Early symptoms of leptospirosis include fever, head and muscle aches, vomiting and diarrhea, while late-stage indicators are redness of the eyes, fatigue, confusion and nausea, among others.

Those who are experiencing symptoms of leptospirosis should seek medical help immediately. Health centers also offer Doxycyline capsules as prophylaxis, the press release said.*
