
Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman led the symbolic inauguration of the P10,022,718 project to upgrade and redevelop the Mambukal Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary recreational trail in Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Monday afternoon, April 7.
She was joined by Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development-Western Visayas Regional Director Eva Maria Marfil and Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II, on behalf of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, at the rites held at the Negros Occidental Capitol in Bacolod City.
The project is funded under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF)-Green Green Green Program, which is designed to support beneficiary provinces, cities, and municipalities in promoting green public spaces and other infrastructure projects that foster wellness and active mobility.
The upgrading and redevelopment of the trail within Mambukal aims to enhance visitors’ experience while prioritizing safety, sustainability, and environmental education, the project brief said.
The project involves improvement of pathways, installation of directional, regulatory, and informational signages, creation of rest areas with trash bins, and incorporation of educational features to highlight the area’s rich flora.
The project ensures minimal environmental impact while promoting biodiversity conservation and environmental awareness, the project brief said.
The trail is designed to accommodate visitors in a controlled and organized manner to maintain the ecological balance of the area.
The Mambukal project is a testimony to the commitment of the government to promoting a livable environment for all while ensuring responsible development and sustainable ecotourism, Pangandaman said.
“Through this project, there will be pathways and rest areas for a more convenient and pleasing trail experience for visitors while learning more about environmental awareness,” she said.
Pangandaman assured the public that the DBM is one with Negros Occidental in protecting and preserving the Mambukal Wildlife Sanctuary, which holds great significance for all Negrenses.
Through the Green Green Green Program the DBM will continue initiatives that foster economic growth and development and ensure best practices to save the environment, she said.
The budget for the project has been downloaded to the provincial government and the timeline for completion will be up to the local government, Isis Doblado, housing and homesite regulation officer 2 of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, said.*
