Crime incidents in Negros Island drop by 31 percent in October – PRO NIR

Total crime incidents in the Negros Island Region dropped by 30.97 percent in October 2026 compared to the same month last year, the Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) reported.

Police recorded 595 incidents in October this year, down from 862 in October 2025, representing a decrease of 267 cases.

The decline was largely attributed to fewer public safety incidents, which fell by 69.92 percent from 399 to 120 cases.

Vehicular incidents also decreased by 69.77 percent, from 397 cases in October last year to 120 this year, according to PRO-NIR data.

Meanwhile, index crimes, which include serious offenses such as murder, homicide, robbery, theft, and rape, declined by 10.13 percent, from 79 to 71 incidents.

The eight focus crimes also decreased by 7.79 percent, from 77 to 71 cases.

Among these, physical injury cases dropped by 87.50 percent, from 16 to two, while rape cases decreased by 44.44 percent, from 18 to 10.

PRO-NIR Regional Director Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales attributed the decline to intensified police visibility, regular patrols, intelligence gathering, and coordination with local government units and communities.

Reales said the reduction in crime incidents should not lead to complacency, stressing the need to sustain preventive policing and improve investigations.

“The decline in crime incidents reflects the measures we are implementing to keep our communities safe. However, this is not a reason to become complacent,” Reales said.

He added that police personnel must continue strengthening their presence in communities, responding promptly to reported incidents, and ensuring that offenders are held accountable.*
