Covid hits three at airport tower, flight changes made

There will be flight schedule changes at the Bacolod Silay Airport in Silay City because of the reduced hours at its control tower starting Saturday, January 22, until January 28, Negros Occidental Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Friday.

The airport control tower operating hours have been reduced to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. after three of its air traffic controllers tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, airport manager Juanito Tanchico informed Diaz.

Personnel belonging to one shift will be working at the tower per day, he said.

Diaz said no flights will be cancelled, the airlines will make the necessary adjustments.

Diaz also said the Department of Transportation that has issued a clarification on its “no vaccination, no ride” policy.

All those who are 18 years old and above are still required to present vaccination cards indicating that they are fully vaccinated and negative RT-PCR test results, he said.

Unvaccinated individuals aged 17 years old and below may board airlines as long as they present negative RT-PCR test results.

Those who are three years old and below are exempted from vaccines and RT-PCR tests.*
