The occupancy rate at the Negros Occidental COVID-19 designated hospital is rising, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Tuesday, January 18.

The Cadiz District Hospital now has a 66.67 percent occupancy rate, he said.

He said the majority of the 62 admitted patients were suffering from various ailments at other hospitals but tested positive for COVID-19 prompting their transfer to the Cadiz District Hospital.

The active COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental increased to 1,151 on Tuesday, the Provincial Incident Management team reported.

Two Capitol employees at the Provincial Budget Management Office and the Provincial Planning and Development Office have tested positive for COVID-19, Diaz also said.

The provincial government is stepping up contact tracing efforts and testing to curb the COVID-19 spread, he said.

Meanwhile, Negros Occidental has fully vaccinated 568,701 residents or 53.47 percent of its target population against COVID-19, while those due for a second doses are 210,765 or 11.93 percent, Diaz said.

The province still needs to vaccinate 638,904 residents or 35 percent of its target population, he added.*
