Covid cases rise to 7 at Capitol, no lockdown

The number of Negros Occidental provincial government employees hit with COVID-19 rose to seven on Tuesday, September 7, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

The provincial accountant and two of her staff are the latest additions to the COVID-positive Capitol employees.

A doctor and nurse from two Negros Occidental provincial government hospitals and employees from the Capitol’s Promotion Information Section (PIS) and Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center also tested positive for COVID-19, Diaz said.

However, none of the offices have been locked down, he said Tuesday night.

The rest of the PIS employees tested negative for COVID-19 and will return to work on Wednesday, he said.

Provincial government employees have been reminded not to eat together, gather for meetings and to wear their masks at all times because of the unusual rise in COVID-19 cases, he said.

They are also directed to limit inter-office visits, and the holding of parties, he said.

Meanwhile, Diaz said the 33 migratory workers who entered Negros Occidental from Antique recently tested negative for COVID-19.

Several hundred additional migratory workers are also expected to arrive soon, he said.*
