Cops seize P3.4M in shabu, arrest high-value target

The police seized about half a kilo of suspected shabu worth P3.4 million and arrested a high-value target in a buy-bust operation in Brgy. San Miguel, Bacong, Negros Oriental, on Thursday, Sept. 11.

The suspect was identified as “Cyrel,” 56, married and a resident of Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.

Acting on a tip from a confidential informant, operatives of Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit and Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO), together with the Bacong Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Negros Oriental, conducted casing and surveillance before launching the buy-bust.

Police recovered from the suspect a medium-sized sachet and five large sachets of suspected shabu weighing around 500 grams, a mobile phone, a red sling bag, and P1,000 marked money along with P13,000 in boodle money.

The suspect remains in the custody of the Bacong police while the seized drugs were turned over to the Negros Oriental Provincial Forensic Unit for laboratory examination.

PRO-NIR Regional Director PBGen. Arnold Thomas Ibay said the operation sends a strong warning to those involved in the drug trade.

“This is a clear message to all those involved in the illegal drug trade, your days are numbered. PRO-NIR will remain relentless in its pursuit of a drug-free Negros Island Region,” Ibay said.

The police vowed sustained operations to dismantle drug networks and protect local communities from illegal drugs.*
